Home > FAQ Frequently Asked QuestionsWhen I first got on the internet, I didn't know what FAQ was and I didn't even know who to ask. After looking at a few FAQ pages I began to think that "FAQ" was shorthand for "facts" since these pages were filled with straight-forward truths about the topic being discussed. And then, someone told me that FAQ was an abbreviation for Frequently Asked Questions! At least I wasn't too far off!
How did you get your picture in the corner? A friend drew a caricature of me. I reduced the image on a copier, and then scanned it into my computer using a Kodak Snapshot Photo Scanner 1. Once the image was digitized, I stripped out the color aliasing to create a pure black and white image. Next, I resized the image and resampled it using the tools built into Microsoft's FrontPage 2002. Lastly, I inserted the image into a shared border so that it would appear at the top of every page (both here and at Randy's Mart). By the way - I didn't need an FAQ page until I posted that picture. Everybody who knows me wants to know how I did that!

I'm a forty-something year-old man who has a pet bird, a cat, and have just adopted two gerbils too! I work full-time as a respiratory therapist, I'm an avid book-reader, and I manage two web sites, Randy's Homestead and Randy's Mart, for fun. I've just started the Clean Jokes Websites program to create a network of websites suitable for children (of all ages).

What is Randy's Homestead all about?
Randy's Homestead was started on March 28, 1999 as a free website on
Geocities. As my web site grew, and I grew with it, I registered www.randyshomestead.com with
Dotster and switched my web site host from Geocities to
Parcom.net.
I started Randy's Homestead to share information on prostate cancer and programs for the Palm Pilot organizer. The more information I researched on prostate cancer, the more I realized that I was beginning to dispense medical advice. There are already many good resources on the web (visit the WebMD and American Cancer Society websites), so I removed my prostate cancer pages. (At this point I was also steering Randy's Homestead towards a kid-safe model - prostate cancer just didn't fit in.)
The Palm Pilot programs section, while kid-safe, turned out to be a stagnant area. There wasn't much interest in what I had to say and the programs were readily available elsewhere. So I deleted that section too, and used the web space for other items.
The only sections to survive (and thrive) from the original Randy's Homestead, are My Pets and The Kitchen. While The Jokebook was not part of the original website, it has taken on a life of its own!

Do you make any money doing this?
Yes I have. Not a lot, but I'm working on it. Scattered throughout Randy's Homestead are links to other company's web sites. If you buy a product (or service), through one of these links, that company will pay me a small commission (the amount varies between companies, and the products purchased). You don't pay any extra - but I earn a referral fee.
For example, if you were to buy: Rich Dad, Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money That the Poor & Middle Class Do
Not! by Robert Kiyosaki (Click
Here!), from my link to Amazon.com, I earn a small referral fee. Once every three months, Amazon.com sends a commission check. Some
companies pay quarterly, some pay monthly. You can learn more about this on my Webmasters page.
I've recently started my second web site, Randy's Mart, where I can feature my hand-selected collection of unique gifts from across the web. I'll soon be moving most of the shopping links off of Randy's Homestead so this web site can be informative and fun.
